Can You Be Born in the Wrong Body? | Hope Unfiltered Ep. 3

XFacebookWhatsAppEmail

Can someone be born in the wrong body? And if our feelings about who we are conflict with our biology, what actually defines our identity?

In Episode 3 of Hope Unfiltered, Jason Potter tackles one of the most difficult and controversial questions submitted to the show: What does Christianity actually say about transgender identity?

Rather than beginning with condemnation, Jason starts with something Christians can sometimes forget in conversations like this: God loves people — including those wrestling deeply with their gender and identity.

Jason explores the Christian understanding of human beings as integrated people — where our bodies aren't simply containers we happen to live inside, but an important part of who we are. He discusses gender dysphoria, feelings, biological sex and why the Christian understanding of identity can clash with some contemporary ideas about gender.

But this episode isn't only about gender.

The second question asks: How do we stop society from changing who we are?

From advertising and news media to movies like Avatar and shows like Star Trek, Jason argues that the messages surrounding us are never completely neutral. They're shaped by different assumptions about humanity, God, truth and the purpose of life.

So how do you work out what you actually believe?

Jason challenges us not to blindly accept what we're told — including what he says — but to examine our worldview, ask difficult questions and test whether what we believe is actually true.

In this episode:

  • Can you be born in the wrong body?
  • What does Christianity say about transgender identity?
  • Do our feelings determine who we are?
  • Does your body form part of your identity?
  • How should Christians respond to people experiencing gender dysphoria?
  • How does society influence what we believe?
  • Are movies, media and advertising shaping our worldview?
  • How do we determine which worldview is true?
  • Why should you believe what anyone tells you?

Hope Unfiltered is a place for courageous conversations about life, identity, faith and purpose — including the questions people are sometimes afraid to ask.

Keep asking the difficult questions. Keep testing what you're told. And keep wrestling with what is true.
