The Bible does not tell us to accept every idea we hear — including ideas presented by Christians. It repeatedly encourages us to think carefully, test what we are told, and allow truth to shape the way we understand the world.
Be transformed by the way you think
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Test what you hear
“Test everything. Hold on to what is good.”
Check the evidence
“They received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
Listen to more than one side
“In a lawsuit the first to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines.”
Be careful what shapes your framework
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy.”
What seems right is not always true
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.”
Truth matters
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Put together
The biblical approach is not “don’t think — just believe.”
It is almost the opposite.
Listen. Examine. Compare. Test. Keep what is true.
Christianity provides a framework for understanding reality, but the Bible itself encourages you to ask whether what you are hearing actually stands up to examination.
